A Celebration in Calabria
Some journeys begin with an invitation.
Ours began with the wedding of our dear friends Francesco and Anni, who brought us to Calabria for a celebration that became the beginning of a journey through a region we had never explored before.Nestled between the hills and the Ionian Sea, BORGO DEL CONVENTO provided an unforgettable setting. A former monastery dating back to 1492, where history, nature and timeless elegance coexist with remarkable ease.
For the couple, we created one of our very first works using both parts of an oyster — the shell and its matching lid. Two separate forms, shaped by nature to belong together, becoming complete only as one. We could not imagine a more fitting symbol for a wedding.
The days that followed took us along the Calabrian coast. TROPEA quickly became our favourite place. Suspended between sea and sky, its winding streets are lined with independent boutiques, beautiful Italian linen and cafés that invite you to linger. Every evening ended with the silhouette of Stromboli slowly disappearing into the Mediterranean light. By chance, we discovered a small retreat in CAPO VATICANO. A quiet place overlooking the sea, where the sunsets felt even more magical. We could easily have stayed another week. Our final stop was PIZZO, home of the famous Tartufo di Pizzo. Like so much in Calabria, it celebrates simplicity at its finest. Fresh seafood, handmade pasta, wood-fired pizza and a vibrant rosé enjoyed under the evening sky.
What surprised us most was Calabria's generosity. Rolling green hills, an abundance of wildflowers, and the most spectacular bougainvillea we have ever seen. Rich flavours, warm hospitality and a landscape that seems to celebrate life at every turn.
Calabria celebrates life with remarkable ease. Around its tables, in its landscapes, and in the warmth of its people, there is a generosity that lingers long after the journey ends.
